Editorial / Skylark field guide

Useful enough to trust. Clear enough to check.

What this guide knows, what it has not tested, and how a future editor can keep it honest.

Documentation reviewed 19 Sep 2026Edition 01

The useful claim beats the impressive one

The guide starts with primary sources: maintainers for software, operators for feeding instructions, and authorities for their own rules. A clear explanation is original writing, not a rewritten README with its uncertainty removed.

Instructions here are documentation-reviewed. This edition does not claim completed installations across every board, measurements from a test antenna, personal experience with every network, or legal approval for every receiver. Those claims require evidence we do not have.

Software entries explain jobs and boundaries. We do not infer maintenance quality from star counts or invent release dates. Account benefits are named only where documented. A public interface is not evidence of unrestricted data rights.

Skylark is listed as one destination, with its actual documented limitations. The technical description was checked against repository revision 6cfa123. The public registration flow was not independently exercised. There are no paid rankings or affiliate links in this edition.

A date is useful only when it means something

The documentation review date is 19 September 2026. It means the named references were examined for this edition, not that every link was tested by an automated crawler or every command was executed on hardware.

The next recommended editorial review is 19 October 2026. No scheduled job is installed by this package. Recheck provider benefits, account requirements, image support, installation routes and source links before then when a maintainer reports a change.

For a correction, record the guide URL, the sentence or tool result, the upstream reference and your test conditions. Do not include a key or exact private receiver location. Send that note through a support channel you already trust; this offline edition does not invent a public inbox or a working feedback submission.

A maintainer should update the structured source records and content, rebuild, run the tests, and record what changed. The included optional link checker reports redirects and failures without silently calling an unreachable page healthy. A human must still judge whether a working URL supports the claim.

Every picture has a job

The diagrams are original vector illustrations of the receiving chain, line of sight, MLAT and feed separation. They are labelled as schematic, not photographs or measurements.

The horizon graph uses an explicitly chosen smooth-Earth geometric model. The cable graph follows the definition of power loss in decibels. Their source formulas are included, and tables provide numerical alternatives. No graph claims observed coverage or a measured hardware improvement.

The JSON example is synthetic. The browser tools do not upload pasted data, write local storage or use a tracking service. Their results are limited to the checks stated beside each tool.
